Hey, you there. When was the last time you watched a superhero movie? You’re watching one right now? Okay, good, because you might have another one to add to your watchlist if this opening credits sequence is anything to go by.
There’s no doubting that there would definitely be an audience for a Black Widow movie with Tumblr almost universally nodding their approval, but it doesn’t look like it’s ever going to happen. Whether it’s because of Marvel already announced their (packed) schedule of releases up until 2019 or the fact that there are almost too many adaptations leaping off the comic book pages these days, it would be hard to place a smart bet on it happening.
Speaking to Collider, Scarlett Johansson said:
I’ve spoken to Kevin [Feige] about it. I mean, of course, of course we’ve had that conversation before, and I think Kevin would also like to see a standalone film. I think I can speak for him and say that. That’s all, really. Right now I think this character is used well in this part of the universe, but I think that Kevin–I mean, we’ve talked about it and we both share similar vision for what could be a standalone series.
Until the allegedly sexist CEO of Marvel changes his mind and agrees to back a female-led movie, the below video from Christopher Haley is as close as we might get. I’m also happy to just stick with this offering; it’s a wonderfully made speculative piece that seems to be all about Black Widow as a spy, rather than the “superhero” she seems to have become.
