Batman v. Superman: Once Again, Lego Shows Us The Way

We have another year and change before Zach Snyder and Batman v. Superman either jumpstarts DC Comics’ desperate bid to make some of that MCU money, or leaves us with 2+ hours of phenomenal Rifftrax material. In the meantime, speculation runs high on who would ultimately win, and conversations abound on tidbits related to casting and cinematic plans for the DC universe beyond the March 25th 2016 film.

We can stare at photos until a teaser trailer comes out (which will probably happen at some point in 2015), or we can watch exceptionally well-made fan films.

The latest one comes from BrickFlix, and it definitely leaves us with plenty of food for thought. Over the course of less than two minutes, the film recreates a potential outcome for the moment in which Batman and Superman finally square off. There have been numerous encounters in the comics (the Lego short film may remind you a little of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns), as well as in animated works, but nothing quite as clever or appealing as this.

Regardless of how you feel about this film, and no matter who you’re routing for, one thing is clear: with DC trying to get the ball rolling for their universe across TV and film (ready for Jared Leto as The Joker?), Zach Snyder, Henry Cavill (reprising his role as Supes), and Ben Affleck (he’s still going to be Batman, for those who can’t let go of that shitty job he did with Daredevil almost twelve years ago) have an unenviable task ahead of them. They have to set the foundation for the extremely ambitious plans DC has for their various franchises.

We have to wait a little while to find out if they can succeed, but if this film from BrickFlix proves anything, it’s that there is definitely potential to create an epic starting point for the DC universe.
