Atari Reveals the First Images of the Ataribox

Ataribox

Atari, one of the pioneers in the video games industry with games like Pong, Pac-Man and Centipede, will launch the Ataribox. This will be the first console Atari will release since the Jaguar in 1993, nearly 25 years ago. According to Atari, this console will offer classic games from their large retro catalog, like Nintendo did with the NES classic edition (and the SNES classic coming later this year) as well as new games. With this combo, Atari will attempt to please old school gamers with their classics and simultaneously lure the new gamers with fresh games.

The console was previously announced on June 16th by the Atari CEO by saying: “We’re back in the hardware business”. The first images of the hardware (which looked more like a 3D rendered prototype) are showing that you can choose between two models: a retro-style model with a wooden facing, and a more modern model all in black except for the back and Atari logo in front, which are red.

There seems to be an HDMI output, a SD card slot, four USB slots and an Ethernet cable port. There is also a possible jack output for headphones or sound system. None of the specs were announced, but some rumors are saying that it could be as powerful as the current generation’s Xbox One and PS4.

At this time, we don’t know the release date or the pricing of the Ataribox, but we hope that information is going to be released later this year or in early 2018.
