Assassin’s Creed Origins Released Today For PS4, Xbox One & PC

AC Origins 3

If you’ve been missing playing as a hooded and moody murderer in an exotic and historic location, today’s your lucky day. Assassin’s Creed Origins comes to PS4, Xbox One, and PC today after a year away for the franchise and takes the action back, all the way back, to Egyptian times.

While they’ve renovated the combat and a few key mechanics, Origins is still every inch an AC game: you’ll climb up all the things, stab all the bad boys, and then climb some more. However, if a game can let you climb a pyramid and ride a camel (sadly not at once), it becomes hard to resist some familiarity.

The protagonist this time out is Bayek, who is seeking to protect the people in the Ptolemaic Kingdom during a time of turmoil when a pharaoh struggles to lead in the face of a possible Roman invasion by Julius Caesar. The events of the game take place just before the formation of the Assassins.

Critical reception for Origins has been warm so far, currently sitting at an 86 on Metacritic for the PS4 version of the game. It’s received a couple of high scores from Polygon and IGN, but a 7 from Gamespot is one of its lowest ratings. Over on Opencritic, it sits at a strong 85.
