Following on from last year’s licensing agreement with Juventus that made the Serie A team totally exclusive to PES (Zebre gang, where you at?), Konami have announced that PES 2021 will feature a different Serie A team that can only be played on PES and not FIFA: AS Roma.
The AS Roma team name, crest and official kits are now fully exclusive to PES, and PES 2021 will also feature a digital recreation of Roma’s Stadio Olimpico.
Jonas Lygaard, Senior Director Brand & Business Development at Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. commented:
“We have a long history of championing Italian football through the eFootball PES series and we’re proud and humbled that AS Roma is the latest to join that legacy. This year’s PES 2021 will be the only console video game with a truly authentic recreation of the club, but it’s also just the start of what will be a long and fruitful partnership.”
The press release doesn’t make mention of how long this exclusivity deal will last, except for the fact that it will be “long-term”. Looks like Roma may not be officially coming back to FIFA for a while. Will be interesting to see what name EA go with for them this year; Juve were called Piemonte Calcio in FIFA 2020 due to the exclusivity. We are checking with PR to see if this impact Football Manager in any way.
PES 2021, or eFootball PES 2021 SEASON UPDATE to give it its full name, launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 15th for €34.99/£29.99. Due to Konami focusing development on next-gen PES, this year’s edition will just be closer to a roster update than a new game.
