Apex Legends’ Crafting Metals allow you to buy skins and other cosmetics directly with different rarities in cosmetics costing more depending on just how rare they are. You will be opening a lot of Apex Packs in Apex Legends before you have enough Crafting Metals to purchase any Legendary cosmetic.
Crafting Metals in Apex Legends are the one “currency” that you will probably have the least of, especially if you are not keen on spending real money for Apex Coins. The only way to get Crafting Metals currently is through Apex Packs, which you receive 45 of for free up to level 100. Beyond that, you have to purchase them with Apex Coins for 100 coins apiece. However, due to the split nature of so many of the cosmetics, it is completely down to chance how many Crafting Metals you receive.
Here are all the Apex Legends currencies:
Crafting Metals (blue) – allows you to craft cosmetics, only available through Apex Packs. Legend Tokens (red) – earned through natural play, allow you to unlock Legends and some store items after you have unlocked previous cosmetics. Apex Coins (yellow) – purchased through microtransactions, currently unavailable any other way.
Crafting Metals rarities are divided just like the rest of the rarities in-game. Here’s the lowdown on what each nets you when you open an Apex Pack containing them:
It seems like the more cosmetics you unlock through Apex Packs, the more the game defers to Legendary Crafting Metals as a reward. You “only” need two Legendary unpacks from Apex Packs to be able to afford any Legendary skin you want, but bear in mind that there is only a 1 in 30 chance of unpacking anything Legendary from Apex Packs.

If you want to buy a Legendary item in Apex Legends with Crafting Metals, be advised that you may be waiting for a long time unless you dip into your pocket. You can sign up to Twitch Prime via Apex Legends to get yourself five free Apex Packs; there is a 30 days free trial with Twitch Prime, or is free if you are already an Amazon Prime subscriber.
“Even the most jaded of battle royale fans will find their interest rejuvenated by Apex Legends thanks to Respawn’s attention to detail, superior gunplay, and fantastic innovations, though the loot boxes and progression system certainly need addressing.”
