Nintendo have revealed their first quarter earnings for the FY2021, and it’s been an incredibly impressive couple of months for not only the handheld console, but Animal Crossing: New Horizons specifically. The game has managed to sell 10 million copies in this quarter, reaching a total of 22.4 million copies since its launch in March.

These sales figures put Animal Crossing as the second highest selling Nintendo Switch game of all time. The top spot still belongs to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which has managed to shift 26.74 million copies since launch, but when you consider that MK8 Deluxe has been available for about three years at this point, it doesn’t seem like it’ll be long before Animal Crossing claims the top spot. In other Nintendo exclusive news, Pokémon Sword and Shield have sold 18.22 million copies since launch, becoming the biggest Pokémon game in 20 years, and the third highest seller for the series as a whole.

The Switch itself is also having a fantastic time. As of June 30th, Nintendo have managed to sell 61.44 million units worldwide, with 5.67 million units sold in the first quarter alone. According to the earnings, the Switch units sold were split pretty evenly between the Switch Lite and regular models. Nintendo also reiterated that they still expect to sell 19 million units by the end of March 2021, and they’re definitely on track to do so.
