Andy Serkis is Alfred in Matt Reeves’ The Batman

From Marvel to DC, Serkis is making the rounds in the superhero movie circuit.

Matt Reeves took to Twitter today to announce the casting decision for Alfred, who will be played by the precious Andy Serkis. Serkis joins the cast of Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano and Jeffrey Wright. Serkis is certainly not the most obvious choice, but he is a versatile actor, so it will be interesting to see his version of the character on the screen.

After all, Alfred is just as iconic as Batman. The latest actor to take on the role of Alfred was Jeremy Irons, who definitely fit the role but didn’t get much of a chance to do a whole lot with the character given the lackluster outings of both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Other actors in talks to star in The Batman include Colin Farrell and Matthew McConaughey. Farrell is in talks to play the Penguin, which once again isn’t the most obvious choice. The actor has played a villain in a superhero movie before; he was Bullseye in 2003’s Daredevil, a movie we are all trying to forget but simply cannot because it is seared into our consciousness.

McConaughey is being considered for Harvey Dent, but neither of the two are confirmed as yet. We shall keep our eyes peeled for any new developments as the film rounds up its casting.
