Alec Baldwin Joins Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker Movie As Thomas Wayne

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Alec Baldwin has just been cast in Todd Phillips’ stand-alone Joker movie. He joins the likes of Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, and Marc Maron. Baldwin will play Thomas Wayne, the father of Batman’s Bruce Wayne.

THR went on to say that the traditionally straight-laced portrayal of Thomas Wayne will not be around this time. Instead, they have a source claiming Thomas will be more of a tanned, cheesy businessman who dominates the business of Gotham and wants to look good doing it. Apparently much akin to a certain US president that Baldwin has been lampooning for the last two years.

For folks like myself, who have not liked the directions the DCEU has gone since its inception, this stand-alone Joker movie just gets better and better. You now have a two-time Oscar winner, two Oscar nominees, and three Emmy nominees in the cast, an Oscar-nominee writing the screenplay, and a talented, underappreciated director at the helm.

And better still, if this movie fails big time, who cares? It won’t tarnish the DCEU for the die-hard fans, and with so many other legendary performances of the Joker out there, it’s not like the Clown Prince of Crime will never be seen again. Joker begins filming next week and hits theaters October 4th, 2019.
