AEW Double Or Nothing Match Card & Predictions

AEW's debut event is set to be a historic evening in Las Vegas.

AEW Double or Nothing

AEW’s debut event is only a matter of days away, Double or Nothing has one of the most stacked cards that has sent the wrestling world into anticipation for something historic. For an independent show to have gotten this much hype from all corners of the fandom, Cody Rhodes must be doing something right. The Young Bucks have teased that Double or Nothing is going to be the start of their magnum opus, pulling together the best of the independent scene and allowing them to enjoy what they do best in an environment free from creative restrictions.

With Double or Nothing’s card now fully complete, minus maybe a couple of surprise appearances, we’re going to run down each of the matches and throw our predictions and premonitions out into the mix. Make sure to leave your own thoughts and ideas down in the comments for us to steal and pretend we called all along.

Kenny Omega vs Chris Jericho

The main event of Double or Nothing is set to be a rematch between The Alpha and The Omega of professional wrestling. Having already battled at New Japan’s Wrestle Kingdom 12 and then fought in a tag team match aboard the Jericho cruise last year, the two come in at one a piece and have a big score to settle at AEW’s debut event. Having both of these guys headline AEW’s first show is a huge rub to the company. Not only is Jericho a huge get for any indie brand but Kenny Omega is quite possibly the biggest name in wrestling outside of WWE. Seeing these two do battle once more is going to be a treat.

AEW have confirmed that the winner of this match will vie for the AEW World Championship against the winner of the Buy In Battle Royal, which means there are huge stakes on the line in the main event, on top of their grudge. Omega is the ideal man to be put forward as AEW’s flag bearer and first World Champ, and quite frankly, Jericho doesn’t need to be put over at this point.

No matter who walks out of this match the victor, I suspect both men will set the standards for the product going forward, and will have a bloody contest full of twists and turns.

Prediction: Kenny Omega

The Lucha Brothers vs The Young Bucks – AAA World Tag Team Championship

A huge couple of independent stars secured by AEW are Pentagon Jr. and Fenix. The two have been setting tag team divisions ablaze with their impeccable chemistry as a duo, a chemistry that led them to the AAA World Tag Team titles. After the two luchadores announced their signing with AEW, they were targeted by The Young Bucks, who later defeated them for the titles at a AAA event.

The relationship established between AEW and AAA seems to be pretty strong, or at least strong enough for them to allow their tag titles to be defended at Double or Nothing. The Young Bucks will be granting The Lucha Bros their rematch in Las Vegas, and what a tag match it’s going to be.

If you’ve never caught a match of theirs from Impact or Lucha Underground, then make sure you pay attention, because these guys are legit one of the best tag teams on the planet. It would be silly for them not to walk away with the AAA around their waists. Unless we’re going down the WCW route and having the bookers go over at every opportunity.

Prediction: The Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix)

Cody vs Dustin Rhodes

Cody rhodes

A dream match over a decade in the making. Nothing quite beats a sibling rivalry, the artist formerly known as Goldust challenged his brother to a match at Double or Nothing via AEW’s YouTube series. This sent shockwaves through the wrestling world, not only because yet another WWE mainstay had jumped ship but also because Cody and Dustin had never been given much of a chance to compete. Granted, the whole Stardust/Goldust feud took place in 2015, but neither of the two Rhodes brothers seemed to be that into it, and the matches kind of fell flat.

Getting to see them finally do battle without the creative restrictions of WWE lauded over them, I reckon we’re in for quite the contest. Cody is performing at his best and Goldust has what it takes to pull off another classic, even if it is his last. Their chemistry in the ring is bound to be incredible, so I wouldn’t sleep on this match for a second.

I think Cody’s definitely walking out with the win here. Dustin doesn’t necessarily need the rub of defeating his younger brother, and Cody is running the show and has yet to book a loss to his name. I suspect we’ll see a subtle nod to their departed father and have it under a Dusty finish. Because why wouldn’t they?

Prediction: Cody

Britt Baker vs Nyla Rose vs Kylie Rae

I’ll admit, I don’t know a great deal about these three women heading into Double or Nothing, but what I can say is that women’s wrestling isn’t getting a better treatment anywhere else than AEW. Brandi Rhodes is spearheading the movement towards equal treatment of wrestlers of both genders when they sign onto the AEW roster, which for them is a great move. The three way dance between Britt Baker, Nyla Rose and Kylie Rae should be a great start for the Women’s division.

Having already brawled during the AEW announcement rally, the grudge is set between the three women who are bound to put on a show. Having not seen much from the three, I’m going to have to go with my gut and say that Nyla Rose is going to pick up the win. Being the monstrous heel that all wrestling promotions love to push as their dominant champion, a big victory at Double or Nothing would do nothing but favours for her career going forward.

Prediction: Nyla Rose

21 Man Casino Battle Royale

As with any decent roster, you could pick a handful of winners for this guaranteed mess. Battle Royals are always good fun, especially when it comes down to the final few. The caveat to this one in particular is that the winner will earn themselves a shot at becoming the first AEW World Champion against the winner of Omega/Jericho at a late date. So really in truly, the winner can’t just be a throwaway.

Breaking down the entrants leaves me torn between a few names. But if we’re looking for a potential inaugural World Champion, then I’m going to have to go with one of the following names. Naturally I think we’ll see a few surprise entrants amongst the free-for-all, so do excuse the slightly left-field guesses.

Prediction(s): Joey Janela, Joey Ryan, Jon Moxley or MJF.

Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent) vs Angelico & Jack Evans

Best Friends

Some late additions to the AEW roster were Angelico and Jack Evans, two daredevil stars best known for their work in Lucha Underground. The duo will go head-to-head with the Best Friends – Trent Baretta and Chuck Taylor. This is bound to be a fantastic tag match, a nice opener to provide us with a taste of what the AEW style is going to be like.

Most of these exhibition matches could go either way, so your guess is as good as mine. But I’ll go with the Lucha stars purely because I’d love to see Angelico dive off something ridiculous.

Prediction: Angelico & Jack Evans

SCU (Christopher Daniels, Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) vs Strong Hearts (CIMA, T-Hawk & El Lindaman)

Source: bodyslam

SoCal Uncensored were one of the first stables announced for the AEW roster, made of three names synonymous with the independent scene for years. I’ll throw my hands up and admit that I’m not overly familiar with their opponents, but I am assured in knowing this will be another great exhibition for AEW to set the standard for trios wrestling.

Christopher Daniels secured a singles win of Stephen Amell at All In, so perhaps Daniels and his fellow SCU stablemates will be presented as wiley veterans, waiting to be usurped by an up-and-coming faction. For that reason, I’m choosing SCU to take the win here.

Prediction: SoCal Uncensored

Kip Sabian vs Sammy Guevara

Source: wrestlefix

Not many people have seen much of Sammy Guevara and Kip Sabian, but I promise you, heads are about to be turned. These two young guns are exceptionally talented and are set to do battle in the Double or Nothing pre-show, the first out of the gate for AEW.

This should be a testament to AEW putting the focus on young, hungry talent. A very traditional baby/heel dynamic that will keep things light in our opening hour.

I think Guevara is walking away with the win here, getting things off to a strong start. Superbad can take the loss for now, his time will come.

Prediction: Sammy Guevara
