AEW have officially announced that they have parted ways with both Cody and Brandi Rhodes, two names that were synonymous with the early days of the promotion. This news comes as the contractual status of ‘The American Nightmare’ has seriously come into question, with his initial contract running out in December of 2021.
AEW issued a press release thanking them for their respective services to the company and their passion to get the promotion off the ground running. Without the Rhodes family, there’s no way AEW would have become as huge as it is today.
Cody Rhodes then took to Twitter minutes after the press release to share his thoughts. Cody was very open about his respect for the company and all those that work within it.
WWE have reportedly offered a huge-money contract to Cody Rhodes in order to re-sign him to the company with almost immediate effect. The news comes from the Wrestling News Observer, who claim that Cody is strongly considering WWE’s offers to bring him back to their product. ‘The American Nightmare’ has yet to make an official decision on where his future lies, but nobody should rule out the possibility that he could indeed leave AEW behind him.
Cody’s contract with AEW has been up for renewal since December of last year, however ties with TBS and TNT projects have kept him tied down with the company without any official contract. After everything that has happened between Cody Rhodes, AEW and their mainstream rivals, it’s hard for any fans to be convinced that Rhodes could indeed be penning with WWE, however this entirely depends on just how much money Vince McMahon is willing to throw Cody’s way. If Rhodes does sign, then this could be one of the biggest defections since Hulk Hogan left New York for Turner’s WCW.
