A Plague Tale: Requiem

A Plague Tale: Requiem sees Amicia and Hugo continue their heart-wrenching journey across Medieval Europe, chased the entire time by some demonic rats intent on consuming everything in their path. While there’s not much chance for wide exploration during this emotional story, there are plenty of collectibles to discover and achievements to earn within the game that you should keep an eye out for. One such achievement, Old Protector, might catch fly under the radar for a lot of players.

Here’s everything you need to know about unlocking the Old Protector achievement in A Plague Tale: Requiem.

A Plague Tale: Requiem’s Old Protector achievement/trophy can be earned in Chapter 9, Tales And Revelations. If you missed earning Old Protector during your first initial playthrough, you can easily head to the sixth major checkpoint, Phoenix, and continue from there. This chapter sees Amicia, Hugo and Sophia trying to infiltrate La Cuna’s mountain temple, in the hopes of learning more about the Macula that’s been afflicting Hugo throughout both games.

After sneaking your way past some patrolling guards, donning some disguises and completing a ceremony, you’ll then find yourself in a massive throne room. Walk into the next room and you’ll find yourself in the bedroom of the previous Carrier of the Macula. It’s here where you’ll need to start interacting with items in order to earn the achievement. We’ll list them for you as we go room by room.

In this first room, you’ll need to interact with:

– Hugo, sitting in a tent in the back right corner of the room
– The toy horse sitting by a pillar in the middle of the room
– The bed on the left hand side of the room
– The toys sat on the table in the back left of the room, next to Sophia

Going through the door will take you to the Protector’s old bedroom, which also has a number of interactables:

– The suit of armour in the back end of the room
– The weapons rack to the right of the suit of armour
– The chest of toys to the right of the door as you walk into the room
– The wax tablet drawings to the left of the door going into the next room

The next room is a courtyard with a mural on the right-hand wall, but there’s no interactables in this room. Directly opposite the door you came in from is the door to the next room, which is an alchemical laboratory. There’s a few interactables to find here too:

– The athanor in the back left of the room as you walk in (it’s the big, round thing)
– The jar on the table at the back of the room.
– The big cluster of jars in the far right corner of the room
– The jar in the front right corner of the room.
– Another jar/oven thing that’s on your right as you walk in.

After you’ve interacted with three of these objects, Hugo will make his way to the table in the centre of the room, so just make sure you’ve interacted with everything before you’ve moved on, as talking to Hugo will advance the plot. Better to be safe than sorry.

Speak with Hugo and after the conversation and Sophia will beckon you to travel upstairs by checking behind the curtains at the back of the room. The path right is completely blocked off so head left and go up the stairs to the Alchemists’ Library. This is the final room in this section so don’t miss this last interactable, the grate in the centre, looking down at the alchemical lab. At this point, the Old Protector achievement/trophy should be unlocked. Now, just talk to Sophia and continue on your journey in A Plague Tale: Requiem.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is available now on PCPS5 and Xbox Series X & S.
