Lion King Remake Reportedly Hiring Someone Who Isn’t Jeremy Irons to Voice Scar

If you’re making a list of the most infamous hand-drawn villains, The Lion King’s Scar has to be at the very top. The swaggering peacock of a lion broke millions of children’s hearts back in 1994 with those same children still shuddering when they think about him in 2017.

And it was all down to Jeremy Irons’ masterful, perfectly evil voice. It’s not easy to effectively chew scenery without even being on-screen, but Irons somehow managed it.

According to reports, however, he won’t be coming back for the remake, which is currently in production.

THR claim that Chiwetel Ejiofor, last seen in Doctor Strange and perhaps most famously in 12 Years A Slave, is being lined up to play the Master of Sass. He would join Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and John Oliver. After the success of The Jungle Book, Jon Favreau will be directing.

I personally can’t imagine The Lion King without Irons, though it will be interesting to see what Ejiofor brings to the role. It could all be nonsense, of course, and we could instead get a Lion King movie that is voiced entirely by Irons.

What a dream.
