Although the series never hit it big in the west (which is why we had to wait ridiculously long amounts of time for the games to get international releases), the open world crime/RPG series Yakuza does big business in Japan, where it’s sold over 7 million copies. Publisher Sega even tried shoehorning zombies into the 2012 spinoff Dead Souls in a shameless attempt to make the franchise more profitable overseas by cashing in on the living dead craze, and we all know how that turned out.
Anyway, the sixth entry in the series be released on PS4 in Japan on December 8 under the subtitle Poetry of Life, and in keeping with the cinematic quality that has helped to make most of the Yakuza games critical hits, it will feature some incredibly lifelike water effects that appear to be pushing the PS4’s graphical capabilities.
This was showcased in a new video at CEDEC 2016, which you can watch below. Now let’s just hope that we don’t have to wait several years for the damn thing to come out in the west.
