In a joint announcement yesterday, EA revealed that Respawn Entertainment (makers of Titanfall and the upcoming Titanfall 2) is working on a “third-person action game set in the Star Wars universe”
They also have recruited God of War 3 Director Stig Asmussen to lead the charge on another Star Wars game. From the company’s website Director Stig made a brief statement about the up and coming game:
“we promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet.”
Here’s hoping that these words come true when this game, whatever it is called, is finally released. I’m hoping for something along the lines of a Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast theme and not something similar to Force Unleashed, which was just a series of platforming puzzles with some quick-time events thrown in.
Since they mention that the game will be set in the Star Wars universe, I hope that we might explore some lesser known planets or just some completely new ones. Maybe do what Knights of the Old Republic so successfully did and have several planets that you can explore at will. One thing I do hope for is some Jedi force action coupled with some solid gunplay and storytelling.
It will be interesting to see how they go about developing the game when you look at the success of Star Wars Battlefront; it will certainly be something different and hopefully just as appealing.
Either way, this will be something to keep an eye on as the game progresses because they now have the opportunity to make something really, really good. Something that will get better each time you play it and hopefully do the Star Wars franchise justice.
