The marketing team behind Dark Souls III need to be applauded for throwing money at every angle. Questionable mobile game? Check. Weird tea crossover? Oh, you bet. Beautiful illustrations all made with chalk? Bingo.
Courtesy of Eli Roth, we now have one of the most unlikely pairings in gaming as the horror director collaborated with Bandai Namco to bring us a Dark Souls cartoon. Yeah, for really.
Weird one, this. It undoubtedly has its charm, but it doesn’t really suit the Souls universe all that well. It does have the muddy narrative of the series that we all know and love. The short animation certainly has the same brutality of Souls, but it doesn’t look like other Souls fans are all that keen on it.
My guess on what’s going on here? It’s showing the “birth” of one of DSIII’s bosses, which is obviously going to be a little bitch to defeat.
Dark Souls III releases its nightmares on April 12th on PS4, Xbox One
, and PC.
