Rumour: Work on Grand Theft Auto VI Has Started

All aboard the rumour train, next stop Grand Theft Auto VI. According to TechRadar, Rockstar are now working on the next instalment of the GTA series. Whilst we could have seen GTA: Tokyo, which would have been set around the time of GTA III and Vice City, but TechRadar’s source admitted that it would be difficult to move GTA outside of the USA. I for one would love to see GTA go somewhere else, London springs to mind but Tokyo would be a very interesting location.

This could also mean that the next GTA game will be specifically made for the next-gen consoles so instead of Rockstar selling us GTA V again just with some added extras, we could have a completely new game specifically for the PS4, Xbox One and PC, which would utilise all the newest operating systems and software. This could entail even better graphics and visuals along with 30/60 FPS gameplay (fingers crossed).

The rumour mill will go on turning as we await more news from Rockstar as to where the newest instalment of GTA will be set. Personally I’m hoping for either Chicago or San Francisco. Chicago because of how Watchdogs showed off the city’s potential, the bustling city centre, high rise buildings and the Chicago River running through the middle of it all. Plus with this close proximity to Lake Michigan could see some usage out of that geographical feature.

The midwest has had very little game time in the GTA franchise, so maybe it’s time for some open world havoc to be caused in somewhere that doesn’t reside on either the East or West Coast. Saying that, the other place I would like to see in the next game, as already mentioned, is San Francisco, it has an almost perfect location with Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge right in the middle of it. Not to mention Oakland just across the water, San Francisco could be the perfect alternative to Los Santos and indeed an alternative to the fake, celebrity worship of Los Santos to the home of the alternative peace-loving hippy.

Whilst this is all good news, what many Rockstar fans, including myself, will be clamouring for is whether we will see a Red Dead Redemption either as a re-release for consoles and PC or will we be getting a new Red Dead game. My hope is that we will get both so I can replay one and then go straight into the other.

There has been little to no news on this front. There was a brief flurry of excitement when Red Dead Redemption became backwards compatible with Xbox One, much to the chagrin of PS4 & PC owners, but the game was subsequently removed. So all we need to do now is wait patiently for Rockstar to give us a glimmer of what might be coming next. Until then, it’s back to Los Santos as we wait for more news on GTA VI.
