Sheet ropes provide an emergency route from an upper floor in Project Zomboid. They can turn a bedroom window into a second exit, which is very handy for when you find a mythical sledgehammer and want to destroy your stairs for ultimate peace of mind while you sleep.
You will need the following:
– A hammer
– At least one nail
– Enough Sheet Ropes to reach the ground
You can craft sheet ropes quite easily by getting removing curtains and right clicking the option in your inventory.
You need one rope section for each level the line must cover, including the destination at ground level. A window on the floor directly above ground therefore normally needs two Sheet Ropes. A higher window needs additional sections. If you’re in a skyscraper…best of luck.
Sheet Ropes can be crafted from suitable fabric items. Keep the finished ropes loose in your main inventory if the attachment option does not appear.
How to attach and climb a Sheet Rope
– Go to an open upper-floor window.
– Right-click the window and choose Add Escape Rope or the equivalent Sheet Rope action.
– Confirm that the rope reaches the ground outside.
– Approach the open window and right click and select the option to attach.
A player-built window frame or low fence at an exposed floor edge can also provide an attachment point where supported. Do not test an uncertain setup by stepping through first. Gravity remains the game’s most reliable mechanic.
Can you fall from a Sheet Rope in Build 42?
Yes. Build 42 changed climbing so any survivor can eventually fall while climbing upwards after an initial grace period. Negative moodles increase the danger, while Strength, Fitness, Nimble and relevant traits or professions affect the calculation.
Descending carries a smaller fall chance, and prolonged climbing causes muscle strain. The system can be disabled through Sandbox settings.
Rest before a long climb and avoid using the rope while heavily exhausted, overburdened or suffering other negative conditions. We learned that doing athletic while knackered isn’t easy.
Can zombies destroy Sheet Ropes?
Yes. Zombies can tear down an exposed Sheet Rope, so it should not be your only route into a base. Check that it is still present before relying on it from outside, and install more than one escape line on different sides of the building when possible.
