Skip Beat!: Season 2 – Will It Happen? Release Date & Story

Skip Beat
Skip Beat

In Skip Beat!, Kyoko Mogami enters show business to take revenge on the pop star who treated her as an unpaid housekeeper, only to discover that acting might be rather more satisfying than destroying his career. She remains interested in doing both, naturally. But did they skip making a second season?

When Is Skip Beat!: Season 2 Coming Out?

Unfortunately, Skip Beat!: Season 2 has not been officially announced and has no confirmed release date, with no news of any kind in quite a long time. Anyone saying anything else is beating the wrong drum.

The first and most recent television season ended on 29 March 2009 after 25 episodes. It was one continuous two-cour production, with no later OVA, anime film or second television instalment. The final episode, And Then the Door Opens, remains the end of the adaptation.

TV Tokyo’s official anime page still covers the original production but contains no sequel announcement. The Taiwanese television drama released in 2011–2012 is a separate live-action adaptation, not a continuation.

The manga’s continued popularity and enormous supply of unused material make Skip Beat! an obvious candidate whenever an older shōjo anime receives a revival. That possibility should not be confused with confirmation, however. No studio, returning cast, production schedule or release window has been announced.

What Could Skip Beat!: Season 2 Be About?

A sequel could finish Ren’s Dark Moon acting challenge before placing Kyoko between Ren, Sho and another troublesome musician.

The anime stops while Ren is struggling to portray the romantic lead in Dark Moon. Kyoko helps him while disguised as her chicken mascot persona, Bo, which allows Ren to discuss feelings he would never knowingly reveal to her.

VIZ’s Volume 12 description continues this storyline, with Ren facing an ultimatum from LME’s president over his performance. A second season could therefore resolve the production while developing Kyoko’s acting ability and her increasingly complicated relationship with Ren.

Later material introduces the band Vie Ghoul, whose frontman becomes interested in Kyoko after provoking Sho. Volume 14 brings those rivalries together, supplying romance, industry drama and enough wounded pride to power another cour.

Where Can You Watch Skip Beat!?

Thankully, and as something of a rarity, all 25 episodes are available through Crunchyroll in both the UK and US.

Both territories also list the Crunchyroll Amazon Channel, which requires an additional subscription and is not included with standard Prime. No current digital-purchase option is listed. Check the UK and US pages for changes.

Can You Read The Manga While You Wait?

Yep. VIZ publishes Yoshiki Nakamura’s ongoing manga in English in print and digital formats.

The anime finishes around Volume 11, making Volume 12 a practical continuation point. Beginning with Volume 1 will restore condensed scenes and character details.

The official VIZ catalogue currently reaches Volume 51, with Volume 52 listed for preorder. There is enough reading here to make waiting for Season 2 feel less like patience and more like a long-term administrative role.
