When not insisting upon how much my opinion matters in relation to music and indeed whatever falls from my brain through my fingers, I can often be found whinging about hangovers here.
This is one such occasion.
However, only briefly, and only because it’s relevant in expressing what a revelation Rainer were for such a situation. You know the sort; everything’s a struggle and simply existing is the most arduous task you’ve ever undertaken, and if you think on that, or literally anything for that matter, for any amount of time exceeding a single second you succumb completely, wholly, entirely to an existential crisis the likes of which you’ve not known since at least a minute ago.
What a universe-send then was Rainer and ‘Water’, the title track of their recently released debut album, to arrive and wash away all the pain. It was almost like some kind of cleansing liquid that I can’t quite recall the name of right now, or some type of weather that brings said liquid down to the ground from the heavens in a falling motion, but…nope, the name escapes me.
How did such a song achieve both that and the honour of Single of the Week? Through sumptuous synth sounds, seductively smooth instrumentation and atmospherics. A spectral calm, delicately intimate vocals, and a semi-nocturnal vibe akin to daydreaming on a late evening.
The duo themselves are vocalist Rebekah Raa and Nic Nell, who also produces under the guise of Casually Here. They  met through mutual friends back in 2012 and bonded over late nights and mutual music-based musings. Aside from the aforementioned track, the pair pull together a breezy blend of R&B, left-field pop, stylistic club scene sheen and an altogether intoxicating introspection.
