FIFA 23: Do You Need PlayStation Plus?

FIFA 23

It’s the final year of FIFA as we know it, with FIFA 23 looking like sending EA’s grip on the license off with a bang. Players are no doubt going to be taking part in millions upon millions of matches over the course of the game’s life, but do those on PS4 and PS5 need PlayStation Plus with FIFA 23 to make that happen?

The answer is yes, PS4 and PS5 players need PlayStation Plus if they want to play FIFA 23 online. This is because FIFA 23 is a premium game, and every game with multiplayer that costs you money to buy also needs you to purchase a PlayStation Plus subscription to play them online. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but it’s the way it’s been with multiplayer games since the PS4 launched.

The cheapest option players can get is PlayStation Plus Essential. In the US, PlayStation Plus Essential costs $9.99 monthly / $24.99 quarterly / $59.99 yearly. In the UK, PlayStation Plus Essential costs £6.99 monthly / £19.99 quarterly / £49.99 yearly.

A PlayStation Plus Essential subscription will also net you some “free” games for both consoles each month, as well as a selection of free content packs for some games when new seasons launch. No such pack has been announced for FIFA 23, though you should be able to get Prime Packs this year like you did last year.

FIFA 23 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X & S, and Switch.
