Believe it or not, Vinland Saga has been around for quite some time. Before it got the outstanding anime adaptation we all admire so much by Studio Wit, the manga had been going on since early 2005. Vinland Saga is written and illustrated by Makoto Yukimura, and while he has made other manga like Planetes, none have been as big as his Norse tale.
The manga has been published on a monthly basis since its inception, and at the moment its chapters have been compiled into 26 volumes. Over 5.5 million copies of it are in circulation, and with so much source material to go around, it’s hard not to ask for a Vinland Saga: Season 2.
The first season of Vinland Saga aired back in 2019 and consisted of 24 visually appetizing episodes, but that’s what you would expect from the animators behind Attack on Titan. Since its release, the anime has found critical acclaim, and with so many questions left unanswered from the last episode, fans can’t help but ask when Vinland Saga: Season 2 is going to head towards them.

When Is Vinland Saga: Season 2 Coming Out?
You’ll be glad to know that Vinland Saga: Season 2 was announced in July 2021, and currently, it’s scheduled to start airing on January 9th, 2023. It has also been confirmed to have 24 episodes, so there will be plenty of manga chapters covered.
Vinland Saga: Season 2’s animation was originally stated to be reprised by Studio Wit, but the project has now been taken over by Studio MAPPA. The official trailer for the season is already out on YouTube and Crunchyroll, but that’s not all. To spice things up, a key visual depicting the new story characters has also been revealed. By the looks of it, MAPPA does justice to the manga art by Yukimura.
What Is Vinland Saga: Season 2 About? (Spoiler Alert)
As the first season covered the entire events of the War Arc, from Thorfinn’s bitter childhood to Askeladd’s sudden demise, we expect Vinland Saga: Season 2 to adapt the entire second arc of the manga, the Slave Arc.
At this point in the manga, Thorfinn is sold into slavery as atonement for him attacking Prince Canute. An enraged Thorfinn couldn’t bear that his life’s purpose, to kill Askeladd, was taken away by a naive prince, and so he started throwing hands in every direction.
While being enslaved, Thorfinn meets Einar, and together they work to free themselves from their unsettling fate. On the other hand, kingship has now fallen on Canute, and so he sets his vision to create a utopia on Earth into motion.
It’ll be incredible to witness such an emotional part of the plot coming up in Vinland Saga: Season 2, so it’s best if you mark your calendars for January 2023, as that’s when you’ll be running into Thorfinn again.
