The PS5’s v.21.01-03.10.00 Update Brings Back A Classic Line

Say the line!

The PS5 is getting a few updates these days, even if there’s only been maybe a couple of any sort of significance. The v.21.01-03.10.00 update is not one of those, but it does at least maintain a PlayStation tradition.

There’s one single patch note for v.21.01-03.10.00, and it’s an iconic one. Are you even really a gamer unless you’ve seen this at some point in your life?

“This system software update improves system performance.”

And that’s your lot, thanks for coming.

What Does “Improves System Performance” Even Mean?

Nobody knows, maybe even Sony, and that’s what makes it so fascinating.

PlayStation fans, including me, have grown to weirdly love the non-committal nature of these smaller updates. What exactly is being improved? How is it being improved? I’m sure there have been others before this one on PS5, but it’s the first “improves system performance” update I’ve seen so far — and I’m glad to make its acquaintance once again.

In a world that’s so utterly alien right now with so many things changing wherever you look and nothing making much sense, at least will always have improved system performance in a PlayStation console update.
