Before Capcom Vancouver closed back in 2018, the studio was mostly known for developing the Dead Rising series from Dead Rising 2 (as Blue Castle Games) until the disastrous Dead Rising 4. Following a terrible Puzzle Fighter reboot, the studio was shut down by Capcom, but according to a report from DidYouKnowGaming’s Liam Robertson, the studio had pitched plenty of new projects before closing.
The whole video is worth watching, but the key talking points stemming from the video are what Capcom Vancouver had planned. Naturally, a Dead Rising 5 was in the works, but the studio also discussed working on various other Capcom IP. These include a Dino Crisis reboot, an action spin-off of Resident Evil, a side-scrolling Mega Man game and something involving Onimusha. However, all these pitches were shot down by Capcom.
One project that was green-lit was a paranormal shooter set in the 1970s that would have been based on Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins series, which sounds awesome actually. This project was worked on until the final restructure, so it likely won’t see the light of day, which is a damn shame. Capcom also rejected a couple of pitches for some new IP, with a sci-fi survival game code-named Brazil and a blockbuster sci-fi game referred to as New Frontier.
Reboots/remakes for classic Capcom IP have been highly requested for a long time, especially after the recent success of Resident Evil 2 and 3. Hopefully, this isn’t the last we hear about games like Dino Crisis, Onimusha and more.
Thanks, Siliconera.
