Infinity Ward Planning To Crack Down On Racism In Modern Warfare

Long time coming.

Modern Warfare

Infinity Ward, the developers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, have announced that they’re planning on taking a tougher stance against racism in their game, taking more steps to stop players from using racist language as part of their display name or in the game itself. The news comes from Infinity Ward’s Twitter account.

This move comes during the midst of worldwide Black Lives Matter protests, with the Call of Duty community calling on the developer’s to do more to address racism in their game. In their tweet, Infinity Ward states: “There is no place for racist content in our game. This is an effort we began with launch and we need to do a better job. We’re issuing thousands of daily bans of racist and hate-oriented names. But we know we have to do more – and we are.”

You don’t have to look too far in the replies to that tweet to see examples of such hateful language, with screenshots of the n-word being used as part of various player’s names. Infinity Ward will be looking to address these issues going forward, along adding more resources to monitor racist content, more reporting systems that are easier to access, larger restrictions on names and increased permanent bans. Hopefully, these changes will lead to a cleaner and friendly Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in time for Season 4’s eventual launch.
