DONTNOD Entertainment, the French developers behind the likes of Life Is Strange and Vampyr, have announced that they will expanding with a new studio in Montréal, Canada.
Billed as an expansion to bring them closer to their North American audience, this new studio will start on a “brand new project”.
That potentially rules out a sequel to something like Vampyr or Remember Me, two of DONTNOD’s other games, so it looks like they may be working on Tell Me Why: an Xbox exclusive episodic adventure game, or something new entirely. They will be hiring from Montreal to get ready for this project and also “diversify the company’s culture”.
Oskar Guilbert, CEO of DONTNOD, on the expansion:
“We are delighted to share our plans of expansion with the opening of this new office in Montréal, completing the talented team working out of Paris. Our goal is to create video games as close as possible to our community’s expectations. With this new international team, we will be able to envision even more ambitious titles and keep writing wonderful stories for our players.”
DONTNOD already has 250 employees, which goes some way towards explaining how they have been able to be so busy in recent years. Since 2018, they’ve developed Vampyr, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, and Life is Strange 2 with Twin Mirror and Tell Me Why both on the way.
DONTNOD’s first game was 2013’s polarising Remember Me with them forming as a company in 2008. Life is Strange 2 finished its episodic run in December of last year to critical acclaim, its fifth episode being the strongest of the season.
