Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, the single-player spin-off for Gwent, is out now for the Nintendo Switch after initially launching in 2018. It costs $19.99 and needs up to 4.3GB of space.
Already available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Thronebreaker follows Meve, the queen of Rivia and Lyria, as she tries to fight back against a Nilfgaardian invasion.
Here’s a quick synopsis:
Thronebreaker is a single player role-playing game that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and turn-based battles, and spins the tale of Meve, war-veteran queen of two Northern Realms — Lyria and Rivia. Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.
And the Switch trailer.
Despite positive critical reception, Thronebreaker suffered low sales when releases exclusively on GOG, though it might have picked up since its porting to Steam and other platforms. It’s also believed that Thronebreaker’s release saw book author Andrzej Sapkowski demand more money from CD Projekt from their initial deal, though the relationship between both is now healthy.
In other news, Gwent on console also lost its support with the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game not performing as expected.
Here’s hoping that thanks to a new platform and the overwhelming love for the Netflix adaptation that Thronebreaker can find some more success on the Switch. Here are some tips if you’re just getting started.
