7 Biggest Upcoming Games of August 2017

Uncharted Lost Legacy

It’s August, which means that summer is in full swing. The sun is shining, the birds are singing…and there are a lot of games releasing this month to help keep you indoors, away from all that nasty, natural Vitamin D.

Here are seven of the biggest upcoming games that are releasing in August of 2017:

TACOMA

Developer: Fullbright
Publisher: Fullbright
Platforms: Linux, Windows, macOS, Xbox One
Release Date: August 2nd (PC, Xbox One)

From the same developers who made Gone Home, Tacoma is “a narrative adventure set aboard a high-tech space station in the year 2088.” Its aesthetics have been compared to that of BioShock, and it’ll be an Xbox console exclusive when it releases on August 2nd.

LAWBREAKERS

Developer: Boss Key Productions
Publisher: Nexon
Platforms: Windows, PlayStation 4
Release Date: August 8th

LawBreakers (or LAWBREAKERS, as it’s sometimes shoutily stylised) is an upcoming FPS game from Boss Key Productions and Nexon. The PS4 beta has been available for some time now, and the game has some interesting buzz around it. Check it out for yourself on August 8th!

SONIC MANIA

Developer: Headcannon, PagodaWest Games
Publisher: Sega
Platforms: Windows, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
Release Date: August 15th (worldwide except for Japan, which gets it on the 16th)

The latest Sonic fare was made in celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary, and Sonic Mania goes back to its predecessors’ roots with a side-scrolling, platform offering that will have you thinking it’s 1991 all over again. The game features some classic levels as well as some brand new ones, and you’ll be able to play as Sonic, Knuckles and Tails.

UNCHARTED: THE LOST LEGACY

Developer: Naughty Dog
Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
Platforms: PlayStation 4
Release Date: August 22nd (NA), August 23rd (PAL)

A standalone Uncharted expansion, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is set to release at the end of this month. The game featured pretty heavily at E3, and has also been confirmed to not be featuring Nathan Drake, much to the disappointment of all the Nolan North fans out there.

MADDEN NFL 18

Developer: EA Tiburon
Publisher: EA Sports
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: August 25th

I don’t really understand sports–unless that sport is League of Legends or the Puppy Bowl–but luckily plenty of other people on this site do, which is why I can let you know that Madden NFL 18 is going to have something called a “Longshot Mode”, a new story mode which will focus around a Texan quarterback. I think I can hear the King of the Hill theme in the distance…

ABSOLVER

Developer: Sloclap
Publisher: Devolver Digital
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Windows
Release Date: August 29th

Do you like kicking, punching and everything martial arts-y? You’re probably excited for Absolver, which is releasing at the end of this month. Created by a team of developers who used to work for Ubisoft, there’s a lot of hype surrounding the game’s smooth-looking fight mechanics, as well as its interesting art style. One to keep an eye out for!

LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM

Developer: Deck Nine
Publisher: Square Enix
Platforms: Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: 31st August

A prequel to the wildly successful Life is Strange, Before the Storm will be a series of episodes set before the first game, the first episode of which is scheduled for release at the end of this month. Before the Storm was announced at E3 2017 and is being keenly anticipated by Life is Strange fans worldwide.
