7 Biggest New Games of June 2018

Onrush

Some of the biggest games of the year have already released, and the fiscal year is almost over, but that doesn’t mean the games will stop coming. Let’s have a look at the seven biggest new games of June 2018.

1. Onrush

Release Date: June 5, 2018
Platforms: PC, PS4, XB1

This new arcade racer from Codemasters looks like a hell of a time. Focussing on “speed, takedowns and teamwork with high-tempo thrills” in an adrenaline-fuelled multiplayer, ONRUSH has a lot of potential. What looks interesting is the so-called Stampede System, which respawns you right in the heat, instead of leaving you back where you used to be.

ONRUSH appears like it will be less about the racing in general and much more about how great you look while bashing other cars to smithereens. It doesn’t mean that that’s a bad thing, though, as it looks like a load of fun with tons of replay value. There’s a king of the hill mode, a mode where you get increasingly stronger vehicles, and a mode that’s all about using all of your boost as fast as you can and getting all the boost back again, as well as a countdown mode where you race through gates.

2. Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn

Release Date: June 5, 2018
Platforms: PC, PS4, XB1, Switch

It’s been 24 years since the original Shaq Fu game came out for the Sega Genesis and SNES. It was met with mixed criticism, but since then it’s been featured on many lists of the worst games of all times. Even Shaq hates the game with a passion. That’s why, in 2014, a Kickstarter was launched to make a sequel to the game that doesn’t suck. After four years, the game that was originally announced for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U is finally releasing to the generation after that.

Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn is a fast-paced 2.5D sidescroller beat-’em-up game where you fight the hordes of Hell and Hollywood as Shaq. It looks like it’ll be interesting to say the least, although Shaq and the developers seemed genuinely determined to make sure this game is actually great, to not repeat previous blunders.

3. Vampyr

Release Date: June 5, 2018
Platforms: PC, PS4, XB1

The vampire RPG from the makers of Life is Strange is almost here and it looks great. It’ll give players the freedom to kill whoever they want, with consequences rippling through the whole game, be it a smaller number of side-quests because the quest-giver is dead, or fewer abilities because less blood was consumed.

The whole game looks to be dripping with a sense of darkness as England has befallen both the Spanish Flu and a vampire invasion. Moral dilemmas, vampire hunters, and other vampires are inbound.

You’ll even be able to use your powers to control others, depending on how you decide to level yourself up with the amount and the quality of the blood you drink.

4. Jurassic World Evolution

Release Date: June 12, 2018
Platforms: PC, PS4, XB1

After countless years of not having any new theme park simulators to play, Jurassic World Evolution is taking us back to where it all began with a new game that lets you make your own park. You can choose what you want to focus on, whether you want to be “so preoccupied with whether or not you could, you didn’t stop to think if you should”, focused on giving visitors the time of their lives before they inevitably die, or making sure they don’t die, even if it means the park isn’t as fun because of it. The game will let you take care of problems any way you want to, be it before they happen or when they happen.

The game even has Jeff Goldblum on board, returning as the infamous Dr Ian Malcolm, although what role he has in the game (which seems to even have a sort of story mode) is still unclear.

5. LEGO The Incredibles

Release Date: June 13, 2018 (EU), June 15, 2018 (NA)
Platforms: PC, PS4, XB1, Switch

The newest LEGO adaptation of a beloved franchise is almost here, and this time, it’s Disney Pixar’s The Incredibles. Play through both the original movie and the sequel arriving this year with quirky new versions of the characters you know and love. The game will be voice acted like the newer LEGO games all have been, and be jam packed with all sorts of references and jokes.

It looks like it’s going to be just as crazy as every other LEGO adaptation, so it’s sure to be non-stop fun for the whole family. Especially since the last Incredibles games released with the original movie, it’s great that not everyone has given up on movie game adaptations yet.

6. Mario Tennis Aces

Release Date: June 22, 2018
Platforms: Switch

This was probably one of the biggest surprises on this list when it was announced (right next to Shaq Fu), especially with the way it takes itself seriously as an arcade tennis game. It even has a full-blown story mode, and the gameplay looks like it was conceptualized much better than anyone thought it was going to be. It’s exactly the kind of game you should expect from the Mario franchise but no one actually did, and that makes it a whole lot more interesting. You even have a seriously wide range of characters to chose from, from the obvious choices like Mario and Luigi to characters like Chain Chomp and Boo.

The tennis gameplay looks like it has quite a lot of depth, even incorporating things like topspins and slices.

7. The Crew 2

Release Date: June 29, 2018
Platforms: PC, PS4, XB1

After the Crew was released to mixed reviews, it wasn’t a surprise for many when the sequel was announced, because the game itself and its world were praised, whereas only glitches, a UI that was hard to understand and microtransactions were the causes of negative reception.

There have been two DLCs since the first game released in 2014, and Ubisoft Reflections and Ivory Tower are back with a sequel, which looks to be bigger and better than the first game ever was, letting you even drive planes, motorcycles and boats, switching at the press of a button. The Crew 2 looks like it’s going to give the player a lot more freedom in how to get to the finish line as fast as possible.

Which of these games are you looking forward to most? Is there a game that isn’t on this list that you think should be?
