If it isn't Elias with a MITB guitar case I'm cancelling my Network.

Should suspected plans go ahead, the Money in the Bank pay-per-view will once again emanate from the WWE Performance Centre early next month, providing us with another round of hopeful WWE champions waiting in the wings with a novelty briefcase. The Money in the Bank contract has helped cement the legacies of some of the greatest WWE superstars of the modern era: Edge, Seth Rollins, CM Punk, all names that have reaped the benefits of a run with the titles of Mr. Money in the Bank.

We’ve yet to see the full line-up for this year’s Men’s Money in the Bank ladder match, but with the few qualifying matches that we’re seeing unfold on episodes of RAW and SmackDown Live, we can have a good guess at who might be walking away with the big win. Of course it needs to be someone that’s on the precipice of becoming a main-event star, or someone that has skirted around the borders of the title picture for a little too long.

In this list, we run down 5 potential Mr. Money in the Banks for this year’s iconic event. Make sure you drop your own personal favourites or dark horses down in the comments below.

1. ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt

Bray Wyatt walked away from WrestleMania victorious over John Cena in the Firefly Funhouse match, immediately setting his sights on the new Universal Champion and former Wyatt Family member, Braun Strowman. With plans for a Universal title match at Money in the Bank currently up in the air, we can only assume that if he doesn’t meet with Strowman for the title, then ‘The Fiend’ will take the next best thing and attempt to secure a future shot by winning the briefcase.

‘The Fiend’ is a pretty fitting winner for the Money in the Bank briefcase too, literally appearing out of nowhere to get the drop of his opponents is something that could certainly work in his favour whenever he chose to cash in his contracted opportunity. Bray Wyatt’s taunting Funhouse segments could easily start generating some excitement and anticipation around each championship match, keeping us all guessing when we might next see ‘The Fiend’.

I fully expect a Firefly Funhouse themed briefcase too.

2. Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens has quietly become one of the most dependable guys on the main roster. Whenever the audience least expects a great match from him, ‘The Prizefighter’ delivers, just look at his climactic matches with Shane McMahon and Seth Rollins. You’d think that by now, Owens would have been decorated a little more than he has been.

Granted, he is a former Universal Champion, but since unceremoniously dropping the title to Goldberg, he has floundered in the mid-card, failing to regain any of his former momentum. Nevertheless, he’s remained one of the more popular and better utilised call-ups from NXT, occasionally being brought into high-profile feuds. I fully believe that there’s no better time to bring Owens back into the championship scene, giving him a reason to capitalise on his popularity by constantly teasing that he’ll cash-in his long-awaited title shot at a time that best suits KO.

Owens as a heel is a truly methodical villain, a character trait that goes hand-in-hand with being Mr. Money in the Bank. I think there’s some magic waiting to happen with Kevin Owens holding onto the briefcase.

3. Austin Theory

‘All Day’ Austin Theory has quickly become one of the most talked about guys on the main roster. Coming from NXT, having only recently made his debut over Christmas, and instantly being granted passage into a WrestleMania championship match, just goes to show the potential he has to become a huge deal on the main roster.

Now aligning himself with Andrade, Zelina Vega and Angel Garza, Theory has the framework to carve a path into the Money in the Bank ladder match and shock the world again by scoring a shortcut to the main event scene. Theory might be the latest in a long line of failed experiments, sometimes putting the rocket straps on a young talent too soon can do irreparable damage to their WWE career; Jack Swagger anyone?

On the flip side, it can also cement them as the superstar they deserve to be, only time will tell what the case is with Austin Theory. This could be a huge way to show fans that WWE are willing to give opportunities to new faces, and start shaking things up on the main roster to the point where fans would have no choice but to pay attention. Theory has a lot to prove on Monday Night RAW, this could be a massive step in the right direction.

4. King Corbin

The only name on this list that has been a former MITB winner, King Corbin might not be the most popular star in the eyes of the WWE fanbase, but he’s definitely a superstar that has helped hold down the main event scene on SmackDown Live. His feud with Roman Reigns helped change a lot of people’s opinions on Corbin as a top star, his heel work is second to none and he’s really come into his own while sporting the cape and crown.

Corbin could right a lot of wrongs by capturing his second briefcase and successfully cashing it in this time round. His first attempt was thwarted by John Cena, but presumably he’ll be out of the picture for the foreseeable future, there’s nothing standing in the King’s way to finally grabbing hold of a major championship in WWE.

Even if King Corbin doesn’t walk away from MITB as the men’s winner, then he should still find himself involved in the title picture sometime this year. He’s too much of a success story not to.

5. Aleister Black

The demonic presence of Aleister Black has started to take effect on Monday Night RAW. Having steamrolled over a handful of local talent and picking up a few big wins over the likes of AJ Styles and Bobby Lashley, it’s about time Aleister finds himself used in one of the championship scenes.

Not only does Black hold quite the mystique, but he’s also turning into one of the most imposing fighters on the roster, with enough credibility behind him for the fans to take him seriously as a threat to whoever the current WWE Champion is at the time of his ascension. Black could easily walk away with the big win in the Men’s Money in the Bank ladder match, embarking on his destined push under Paul Heyman’s rule.

Aleister Black is a product that WWE needs to make the most of, he’s skilled in the ring and is a unique figure among a stacked roster. There’s no bigger win for him right now than by having a guaranteed championship match in the near future.

It’s time for the Black Mass to become the most dangerous and unpredictable feature on Monday Night RAW.
