Each city offers its own residents and visitors a unique blend of culture, food and drink, entertainment and attractions. While there’s plenty to see and do in cities around the world, here are five U.S. cities with sights you won’t want to miss.

 

1. Nashville, Tennessee
Nicknamed “Music City”, Nashville is the perfect place to experience country music and Southern culture at its heart. Stroll down Broadway in the city to experience the bar scene, which features many open mic and songwriter nights. Venues like the Bluebird Café and The Listening Room Café tend to draw a large crowd for their songwriter nights. Be sure to also visit the country music staples of Nashville including the Country Music Hall of Fame and Ryman Auditorium, home of the famous weekly Grand Ole Opry shows.

If you’re more of a history buff than a country music fan, you can visit Nashville’s recreation of the Greek Parthenon, which also holds an art gallery and museum. Nashville is also home to Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage, the former president’s residence turned historic site. Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage transports visitors back to the time of Jackson’s presidency.

 

2. Portland, Oregon
Portland is situated on the Columbia and Willamette rivers and known for its natural beauty and unique culture. Visitors must take advantage of the many scenic walks, parks and biking paths. One of the best spots in the city to experience its natural offerings is Forest Park. The park is more than seven miles long and holds some of the best hiking trails in the city.

After you’ve taken in the natural splendor of the area, be sure to check out the bustling food truck culture. Another food must-see unique to Portland are Voodoo Doughnuts. 3. Madison, Wisconsin
The Wisconsin state capital has plenty to offer in nature, culture and historic sites. For those looking to take in Madison’s natural sights, Olbrich Botanical Garden is a must-see. The 16-acre outdoor garden features a variety of plant life. If you find yourself near the University of Wisconsin, Madison’s campus, be sure to check out the UW Arboretum to take in more of Madison’s natural scenery.

Another must-see in Madison is the Wisconsin State Capitol. Visitors can take in the building’s stunning architecture and get sweeping views of the city from its observation deck. The Capitol Square also hosts events throughout the year, including the Madison Farmer’s Market. The shops, restaurants and bars that line Madison’s State Street are another must-see for visitors to the city.

 

4. Boston, Massachusetts
Boston provides a great mix of historic and cultural sights for visitors. An essential stop for visitors to Boston is the Freedom Trail. The Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile red brick-lined trek through some of Boston’s most historic sites.

Boston Common is another must-see in the city. At the start of the Freedom Trail, Boston Common stretches for nearly 50 acres and is the oldest park in the U.S. The recently opened Millennium Tower a is new must-see addition to the Boston skyline. The tower stands at 885 and 60 stories.

 

5. New Orleans, Louisiana
New Orleans’ rich history and culture offer visitors a trip to remember. The historic French Quarter is a must-see for visitors. The French Quarter is the oldest neighborhood in the city and home to many must-sees including, Café Du Monde and Gumbo Shop.

Jazz music is another must-see in New Orleans. Visit the Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro for an authentic, New Orleans jazz experience. To see more of the city’s history, take a ride one of its long-running streetcar lines. These streetcars are an excellent way to see more of the city while experiencing its history and culture firsthand.
