10 Games to Look out For in 2015

6. Halo 5: Guardians (Microsoft Studios/TBD 2015/Xbox One)

The next installment in the Halo saga is set to release this year, with fanboys across the globe finding their jeans tightening in anticipation. Bungie are of course no longer producing it so the mantle of responsibility falls to 343 Industries. They whet our appetite already with the re-release of the Halo 2 multiplayer, still in my opinion the greatest multiplayer fps experience of my life. Now its up to a Spartan who is apparently not the Master Chief to save the world, and Microsoft Studio’s bank balance.

7. Star Wars Battlefront (EA Games/Sep 30, 2015/PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Every time I think about this game I squeal like a child who has just been alerted to the existence of Disneyland. Not only is it the new version of possibly the best Star Wars game ever but it is being developed by DICE – developers of all the recent Battlefield games. This is going to be the Holy Grail for Star Wars fans, I will be queuing up for the midnight release and plan on conquering the galaxy one battle at a time. Expect large scale battles, dynamic vehicle sequences and an amazing multiplayer experience.

8. Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires (Tecmo Koei/Jan 27, 2015/PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Who doesn’t love a Dynasty Warriors game? But the frustration of the main series is in its linear nature – if only there was a way the player could have more control and decide their own fate for China? But wait! The Empires series is here to save the day. All the army slaughtering action you could hope for, coupled with the strategic domination over the whole of China, Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires is the most fun you can have legally.

9. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Bandai Namco/Feb 24, 2015/PS4, Xbox One, PC)

If you ask any die-hard PC fan what the best RPG is, chances are they will say ‘The Witcher’. As amazing as Elder Scrolls games and Dragon Age might be, none of them hold a candle to The Witcher when it comes down to depth. The Witcher 3 plans to take that even further. The incorporation of the hunting element to this game seems to take some influence from recent games such as Dragon’s Dogma, and expands on the already vast choice of places to explore and quests to undertake. This game looks tremendous, and looks to be even more addictive than its predecessors.

10. Splatoon (Nintendo/TBD 2015/WiiU)

I felt like a WiiU game needed an honorable mention for 2015 so I picked the one which looks most original and interesting from their 2015 catalog. Splatoon appears at first to be a sort of ‘Baby’s first Shooter’, but on closer inspection has very interesting mechanics. Two teams of squid-esque humans battle to control territory by shooting each other and the whole map with ink guns, players can swim in the ink as a repositioning tool, and the combat looks dynamic enough to hold the attention of the most hardcore gamer. Worth a look in if you own a WiiU, but perhaps not enough to invest in one.
