10 Films You’ll Need to Catch in 2015

5. Spectre

bond 24

Starring: Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw
Director: Sam Mendes
Out: November 6, 2015

The sky fell pretty well the last time Bond was on the big screen and fans have a lot to be excited about for Spectre, especially with Sam Mendes returning to direct. New names include the peerless Christoph Waltz, Batista and Lea Seydoux, who will all no doubt be trying to make sense of the monstrous $300million budget. That’s twice as much as Skyfall.

4. The Hateful Eight

The Hateful Eight

Starring: Sam Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kurt Russell, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth
Director: Quentin Tarantino
Out: December 2015

There’s plenty of hearsay about this being one of QT’s last films and if it is, it’s shaping up to be a great way to start the funeral march. Cinema will miss him – who else can make a film about the Wild West and generate this much interest? – and despite the script leaking long ago, it’s apparently been rewritten several times since. I can’t wait to see some bloodshed and unearth some amazing songs next December.

3. Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens

Force Awakens

Starring: John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher
Director: J.J. Abrams
Out: December 18, 2015

Need we really go into a spiel for this? It’s brand new Star Wars. You’ll watch it.

2. Silence

Martin Scorsese's Silence

If they had an Academy Award for ‘Best Storyline’, Martin Scorsese’s Silence would win hands down. You ready for this? Okay, here’s the IMDb synopsis:

“In the seventeenth century, two Jesuit priests face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity.”

Sounds a little off-kilter, right? Apparently, it’s adapted from a very dry source material so expect plenty of drama and *shudders* TALKING. No matter, Scorsese could make an hour long documentary on belly hair and I’d still be glued to it.

1. Jurassic World

Jurassic World

For me, the success of this film entirely hinges on just how far-fetched the idea of dinosaur modification comes across in the film itself. Star-Lord is in charge of a Raptor Squad ferrchristsake. Although it might not sweep the awards boards of their feet, the Jurassic World trailer reception shows that there’s a lot of mileage left in the series yet and I cannot wait.
