Zoe Kravitz Cast as Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman

"But a kiss can be even deadlier if you mean it."

According to Variety, Zoe Kravitz as been tapped to play Catwoman, opposite Robert Pattinson’s Batman. Kravitz beat out other stellar actresses for the part, which includes Oscar winner Alicia Vikander and Zazie Beetz, who starred in the recent film Joker. Kravitz has made quite a name for herself with the TV series Big Little Lies, as well as her role as Leta Lestrange in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Despite initial concerns of scheduling conflicts with her work on Fantastic Beasts, she still managed to win the role.

The most recent actress to take on the part of Catwoman was Anne Hathaway, for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, but of course the most popular iteration of the character was played by Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns. Halle Berry had a solo Catwoman movie, which received much deserved scorn from the critics (it has an abysmal 9% on Rotten Tomatoes), earning her a Razzie for her depiction of the character.

There is much hype surrounding Matt Reeves’ The Batman, especially when Robert Pattinson was announced to be taking on the role of the caped crusader. Those who haven’t seen Pattinson in roles outside of Twilight were quick to judge, though in time most have come around on the decision, especially when you take into account the stellar work he has done in recent movies like The Lighthouse and High Life.

Filming for the movie is set to begin late 2019 or early 2020, though there isn’t a precise date at the moment. The Batman has a release date of June 25, 2021.
