Nostalgia can take many forms, from reading that old diary, to visiting a childhood home. However, when a past memory is brought up, it seems to have lost a bit of its original feeling. For gamers, something else happens, but in a similar fashion, old games played through backwards compatibility don’t always play as nicely as our memories suggest.
In those cases, increasing the FPS (frames per second) can come in handy, and Microsoft had that in mind. Xbox Series X & S gamers can enjoy some of their favorite games from Xbox One, Xbox 360, and even the original Xbox, with improved frames per second thanks to their FPS Boost technology.
What is FPS Boost?
With older games running on newer platforms, many compatibility issues arise. The most common issue has to do with rendering frames and graphics. Those games don’t look so great and don’t play that smoothly either for some people used to more modern games.
As a way to fix this issue, Microsoft developed the FPS Boost in early 2021. Objectively speaking, FPS Boost makes games with backward compatibility at leasr double their original FPS, up to 60 or even 120. It works like a remaster or a port, but without the hassle of updating the whole game and launching it. Instead, anyone who owns the original game can use this feature for free.
Still, not every game has FPS Boost, or some of them are only available on one Xbox Series. Here’s a list of all of the FPS Boost games available on Xbox Series X and S.
