Xbox One Outsells PS4 During October, Keeps Up Winning Streak

When the Xbox One and PS4 first went head-to-head during their respective launches, it was almost criminal to see how much Sony’s new black box was outperforming Microsoft’s. It was an ugly thing to watch, helped in no small part thanks to how controversial the Xbox One was when it was revealed.

The tide has been turning over the last four months, however, as the Xbox One has been outselling the PS4 for the past four months in the UK, US, and Australia. Microsoft have just confirmed that the streak continued into the month of October, according to data from the NPD Group and GfK Entertainment.

These sales have reportedly been buoyed by the releases of Gears of War 4 and the Xbox One S, along with the record-breaking Forza Horizon 3, which is the best-selling racing game of the year (though it’s been a pretty poor year for the genre). Sony’s announcement of the PlayStation Pro may also be to blame as consumers have been more willing to wait for better hardware than opt for the base unit.

While the Xbox One has been beating the PS4 in recent times, it’s worth bearing in mind that the PS4 is still on top by millions and millions of units. It’s also a good idea to remember that this isn’t 2003 and the console wars mean nothing. I have both and love them equally, even if Sony are terrible at mods and Microsoft don’t know how to build a decent store. They’re both beloved and get the same amount of goodnight kisses.
