Xbox Live Gold Prices Going Up In The UK (Update)

Due to "changing market conditions". Changing "free market" conditions, more likely.

Xbox Live Gold

Xbox Live Gold subscribers from the UK are about to find the cost of playing online is going to get a little bit more expensive. Xbox sent a message to subscribers last night stating that the cost of a yearly subscription is going up from £40 to £50. In the message, Xbox attributes the rise in price to “changing market conditions”, which can only mean one thing. We’ll give you a clue: it rhymes with “Lexit”.

The 3-monthly subscription will also be increasing in price, going from £15 to £18, while the monthly subscription will be going up from £6 to £7.  All of these prices will be increasing on May 8th, but there’s a caveat. Current subscribers will be able to renew their subscription at the cheaper price until August 7th, so if you already have a subscription to Xbox Live Gold, it might be worth hording a couple of yearly passes like a dragon with its gold.

The increase in price puts Xbox Live Gold Membership in line with a PlayStation Plus subscription, which also went up in price to £50 a while back, though Xbox’s 3 month subscription remains slightly cheaper. What do you think about these price changes, and how badly will you blame Brexit for it? Let us know in the comments below.
