Xbox E3 2017 Briefing: 5 Most Exciting New Games

Metro Exodus

Following Microsoft’s briefing at E3 2017, we now know that Project Scorpio will officially be called Xbox One X. However, as is the case almost every generation, software is vital to the success of any hardware in the gaming industry. It’s why the Xbox One has been struggling for so long.

While not necessarily jam-packed with platform-shifters, Microsoft’s E3 briefing did show off plenty of new games along with some release dates and new gameplay. For the sake of variety, however, let’s just focus on the stuff that we hadn’t seen anywhere else.

Bear in mind that these aren’t all Microsoft exclusives, either.

Metro Exodus

The Russian nightmare continues. Metro Exodus is the next game in the Metro series, which spawned from the book, Metro 2033.

The trailer shown looked incredible, to put it simply. Almost too incredible. The cynic in me is screaming that this is probably not actual gameplay and that it has been souped-up to the maximum for the big stage, but I can’t help but look forward to Metro Exodus all the same.

Catch it on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC sometime in 2018. Oh yeah, it’s open world, too.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

The sequel to arguably the best Xbox One exclusive game there is looks like it’s going to be just as emotional an affair.

A sombre, restrained trailer showed off a desolate world – it looked like Gary Jules had wandered into making video games. While it’s doubtlessly going to have its lighter moments, Will of the Wisps may not be for anyone looking for a laugh riot.

The platformer will focus on Ori’s destiny and ask you to uncover the mysteries of Nibel. No release date in sight, unfortunately.

Forza Motorsport 7

Just how shiny can you make cars in video games before they start blinding people?

That’s the question Forza Motorsport 7 posed, the game used to highlight the power of the Xbox One X. It looked stunning with the sun glistening off the cars along with all the other little details. Plus, if you’ve played Forza, you know that it’s a racing series with few genuine peers.

Forza Motorsport 7 launches November 7, 2017.

The Darwin Project

The battle royale subgenre is here, and you better get used to it. It’s just about all you’re going to see for the next year or so.

To The Darwin Project‘s credit, it has Blizzard-esque visuals and a distinctive style, which makes it pop more than a lot of the drab games you find within the subgenre. It also looks frantic as all heck, but the commentary in its reveal trailer makes me want to crawl into a ball and die.

Scavengers Studio are behind the game, which is a console exclusive for Xbox One. Described as “half science experiment and half live-entertainment”, this is going to be one to look out for.

Life Is Strange: Before the Storm

We’re going back to Arcadia Bay.

Previously leaked photos hinted that a Life Is Strange prequel was in the works, but Microsoft’s E3 briefing confirmed it. It’s set before the events of the main game and will center on Chloe and Rachel’s relationship before everything goes a bit Donnie Darko.

Before the Storm will be split into three parts, with the first game due out on August 31. Again, not exclusive to Xbox One, so you can also find it on PC and PS4.
