WWE Smackdown Recap: The AJ Styles Conspiracy

This week’s Smackdown Live kicked off with Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon discussing the “controversy” surrounding who should be the Number One contender for Bray Wyatt’s WWE Heavyweight Championship.

Bryan said it should go to Royal Rumble winner Randy Orton, but Shane disagreed, mentioning Orton gave up his spot, and how AJ Styles beat Luke Harper last week to earn the shot.

And so, as previously announced on social media, tonight’s main event would pit The Phenomenal One against The Viper, with the winner heading straight to the Smackdown main event at Wrestlemania 33.

In the end though, it was an RKO that would see that slithery-arsonist Orton victorious. The main event teased a lot of great spots, and I certainly would love to see what these two top-tier athletes are capable of in another match.

The conspiracy against AJ, however, continues, as does the destined encounter between him and Shane “Weird Hoppy Rabbit Jabs” McMahon.

In other Smackdown business, the team of John Cena and Nikki Bella defeated James Ellsworth and Carmella. Lightning could not strike again for “The Chin That Gets The Win”, as he was put away with an AA and STF in a short match.

Post-match, The Miz and Maryse assaulted Team Fearless Cena, calling their love fabricated, and that they only made it public in aid of the Cena brand.

Where does the line between reality and Total Divas end? Not even Shakespeare could craft a tale so full of tragedy.

Dean Ambrose went on the hunt for Baron “My Belly Has A Sad Face” Corbin, but was attacked by The Lone Wolf backstage, and left pinned under a forklift truck. Shades of Halftime Heat of yesteryear. But this time, there was no Mankind-level celebration.

Corbin earlier stated, via Titantron, that he would take everything from Ambrose, including his Intercontinental Championship. Just please leave Renee Young out of this. She is too pure and Canadian.

Mojo Rawley announced his intention to enter the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. He and Ziggler then traded insults, likely leading to a match next week. I hate Mojo. The only Mojo I recognise is Mojo Jojo from Powerpuff Girls.

Alexa Bliss held a “Bissertation” to announce who her opponent for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania 33 would be. It was, at best, a messy segment that didn’t make things much clearer but involved a lot of name calling. Blame Kevin Dunn for this one.

Smackdown GM then declared that Bliss would defend the title against every available woman on Smackdown, before making a tag team match (playa) pitting Alexa Bliss and Mickie James against Becky Lynch and Natalya.

After Natalya German suplexed Lynch and left her laying, Bliss would tag herself in and pick up the win for her team.

ICYMI on Talking Smack:

– Dean Ambrose has cracked ribs.

– Apollo “Happiest Man on the Planet” Crews has entered the Andre the Giant Battle Royal.

– Renee wants more “stank” on The Big Hog James Ellsworth’s ring gear.

– AJ Styles got in Shane McMahon’s face backstage after the match with Orton.

– The Miz and Maryse drop fiery truth bombs left, right and centre ripping straight through Cena and Bella (Miz is always sensational on Talking Smack!).

As of the March 7th edition of Smackdown Live, the only confirmed Wrestlemania match is:

WWE Heavyweight Championship – Bray Wyatt (c) vs Randy Orton

But we are still very much on track for:

AJ Styles vs Shane McMahon

and

John Cena and Nikki Bella vs The Miz and Maryse
