Wu Assassins Is The Martial Arts Series You Need

The Netflix supernatural martial arts drama series, Wu Assassins, just released their first season trailer and it’s starring The Raid’s Iko Uwais, featuring music by Snoop Dogg. Feel free to be excited.

Indonesian actor Iko Uwais headlines the series as Kai Jin – a chef-turned-chosen warrior tasked with locating ancient triad powers and bringing back balance in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Byron Mann (Skyscraper, Arrow), playing major villain Uncle Six, is head of the Triad and the main opposition to the Wu Assassin’s mission. He’s also Kai Jin’s father.

As producer, fight choreographer, and stunt coordinator, Iko Uwais brought his own fight team to help produce the gritty, hard-hitting choreography that he’s known for. If you haven’t seen The Raid – a film that put Uwais and hallway fight scenes on the map – I highly suggest you go out and watch it now. Twice. More recently, he can be found in Triple Threat and Stuber.

Rounding out the rest of the main cast is Li Jun Li, Lawrence Kao, Lewis Tan, Tommy Flanagan, and Kathryn Winnick. JuJu Chan, Mark Dacascos, and Summer Glau also have recurring roles.

Co-creators Tony Krantz (24) and John Wirth (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) are executive producing with Nomadic Pictures (Van Helsing). Wirth also serves as the show’s writer and on July 14th tweeted that he “delivered all 10 episodes to Netflix on Friday.”

You can watch Wu Assassins in all of its roundhouse-kicking glory when it hits Netflix on August 8th.
