There are a lot of different mechanics in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, especially when it comes to your weapons. One of the most interesting is Embedment, which basically allows you to add Special Effect buffs to your weapons and armor. However, it’s not clear how exactly you unlock it, or even how it works to begin with.
Embedment unlocks the first time you arrive at The Hidden Village after completing a few stages in the story. This should take around 5 hours or so of gameplay, depending on just how much side content you do and how well you perform against the bosses.
Once you arrive at The Hidden Village, travel down the vines and chat to Zhu Xia, the Blacksmith, and Embedment will now be unlocked.
To use Embedment in Wo Long, you will need Jewel Fragments, which can be salvaged by Zhu Xia in the previous menu by giving her weapons and armor that you don’t want. You may also get other materials for salvaging higher level gear. It costs 3000 Copper bear embedment. Bear in mind that some gear has a set amount of slots that can be embedded, with 5 being the maximum.
With enough Jewel Fragments, you can pick from a wide selection of different special effect buffs that govern how well your gear protects against certain attacks, how effectively you utilise your Spirit, and much more. Some gear may also have rare Special Effects that can be extracted as Salvageable Jewelry Essence to then use on other gear. It’s a good way of getting you to use everything you pick up in some way, rather than just discarding or selling it. Special Effects that are marked with two full shapes either side of a middle shape to denote element cannot be extracted and are inherent buffs/status changes.
Be sure to mix and match embedments to find the right buffs for your build. There’s a whole lot of different ways to make your own fighter in Wo Long, so have fun with it and see just how much you can break things.
