Will Ospreay Wins Battle Of The Super Juniors 26

'The Aerial Assassin' wins the tournament for the second time, and is here to stay.

The annual Battle of the Super Juniors brings together the brightest stars of the NJPW Junior Heavyweight division to determine the best of the bunch in a huge month-long tournament. This year saw Will Ospreay battle it out in the finals against rising star Shingo Takagi in a strong match of the year candidate. Ospreay walked away with the victory and his record second BOSJ trophy.

Will Ospreay won his block tournament with a fantastic record of 7-2, gaining himself 14 points and securing himself a place in the finals. After the match, Ospreay would go on record to say that he’s planning on remaining a full-time member of the NJPW roster, filling the massive gaps left behind by the likes of Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes, Ricochet and Kushida.

This is yet another huge win for Will Ospreay, having already won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship twice throughout his career and most recently the NEVER Openweight Championship. Surely this is another step up the ladder for ‘The Aerial Assassin’, and we’ll potentially see him challenging Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in the near future.

This BOSJ Tournament has been one for the ages; featuring an impressive debut run from El Phantasmo, a record-setting 18 point qualification from Shingo Takagi and of course the amazing finals between the two block winners. If you haven’t been paying attention, you best get on this.
