The Wheel Of Time TV Show Is Happening

The Wheel of Time

Step aside George R. R. Martin, because Robert Jordan’s bestselling Wheel of Time fantasy novels will soon be landing on our TV screens. According to Harriet McDougal, Jordan’s widow and the series’ long time editor, there’s finally movement on the long anticipated series.

Wheel of Time is set in a fantasy world full of magic and conflict, with a reported inspiration being Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace. It’s not hard to see why television studios might be interested in bringing the series to the small screen, Game of Thrones currently being a defining TV watermark. Fantasy and medieval settings full of war and intrigue have started popping up all over television to varying degrees of success.

Boy, and if you thought the Game of Thrones books were massive volumes that went on forever, they have nothing on Wheel of Time. Jordan’s series can boast more than double tomes.

In a press statement McDougal said that legal issues surrounding the series had been cleared, presumably alluding to a low budget TV pilot which aired in 2015. Whether the new series will come from the same studio, or find a new home, is unclear.

McDougal said in her statement: “Legal issues have been resolved. The Wheel of Time will become a cutting edge TV series.

“I couldn’t be more pleased. Look for the official announcement coming soon from a major studio.”

Reference to a major studio certainly hints at a bigger player involved in the new show’s production. With shows like Vikings, Black Sails and The Shannara Chronicles using different parts of the Game of Thrones formula to achieve success, it’s actually surprising Wheel of Time has taken this long to stake its claim on our TV screens.
