GEORGE R.R. MARTIN HAS A NEW BOOK OUT!
No, not that one, that’s the next instalment in A Song of Ice and Fire, so don’t get too excited. However, it is definitely something that will be lapped up in droves by the keenest followers of the series. The book is called The World of Ice and Fire, and is a detailed chronicle of the extensively history of Westeros. We’re talking the back story to everything ever. A definite for the uber-fans then.
Now, we all love A Song of Fire and Ice and Game of Thrones. Whether it’s just the books, just the TV series, or both. However, there has been some serious quibbles laid at the feet of the TV series by ardent book enthusiasts, based on its differing from the source material in a number of respects. Well, there’s something else to get up in arms about now; the TV show differs from George R.R. Martin’s brain!
This is only really in how he envisioned a number of locations within Westeros, which is of course understandable, what with it being quite hard to find an exact real life counterpart for his imagination. This played a part in the conception of this book, and its contents, as though Martin has said the locations in the show can be gorgeous, it’s not always how he envisioned it. In relation to the book, at a recent talk 92Y in Manhattan, he has said he wanted representations of his world as accurate to how he saw them with his mind’s eye as possible.
So, working closely with a number of artists he set out to achieve that, and here are the results;
The Iron Throne
Winterfell
The Red Keep at King’s Landing
Castle Black at The Wall
Dragonstone
Also, for anyone interested in the previously mentioned talk, ta da!
