We still have until July 19th until we get our grubby mits on I Am Setsuna, Square Enix’s new-old-new RPG which bears more than a striking, salivation-inducing resemblence to their seminal masterpiece – Chrono Trigger. All forthcoming impressions have been positive, and all the more fodder for our ever-mounting impatience. Thankfully, PAX East provided something which might help to tide us over for the last few months until the PC/PS4 title finally makes landfall: 5 solid, gorgeous minutes of combat.

Provided by GameSpot, the footage exemplifies the artful, smooth graphics we’ve seen previously, mapped around a seemingly simplistic, but effective turn-based battle system which doesn’t tear you away from the action to show stats during or after the fight. It also offers some encouraging insight into the score, composed by relative newcomer Tomoki Miyoshi, his second time as leading composer for a game after Soul Calibur V. All the attack animations are wonderful, but I can’t quite get over the fact that the majority of the video sees the characters attacking pitifully adorable seal-like creatures too bloated and blubbery to do anything other than brave the onslaught, and explode in self defence. I mean, they’re called Puff-Puffs, for crying out loud.

Innocent Puff-Puff slaughter aside, the combat looks every bit as shit-hot as the rest of the game, and we eagerly anticipate the moment it finally arrives.
