Warriors Orochi 4

Yesterday, Koei Techmo America unveiled a some news regarding the upcoming North American release of Warriors Orochi 4. The game had already confirmed the appearance of select Greek and Norse gods before showing off their gameplay, but this time around we were also given some details on something called “Deification” and its ties to the story as a whole.

For the latest installment in the Warriors Orochi series, Zeus has meddled with humans and created an alternate universe where the heroes of Dynasty and Samurai Warriors meet once again. In order to get back to their correct times, they must collect the eight Ouroboros Bracelets, which also grant godly powers to those who wield them – hence the “Deification” mechanic. The latest trailer showed the ambitious Oda Nobunaga bearing quite the celestial armor while also confirming that the attire worn on the cover by Zhou Yun and Yukimura Sanada is indeed their Deified forms. Those who go under Deification are granted unlimited magic, as well as unique physical and magical attacks.

Also confirmed was this installment’s Bonds system. While the series has had this sort of thing before, it didn’t really add much of anything beyond opening up certain missions and getting some bonus dialogue. This time, however, it appears the Bonds have been improved upon, as it will be connected to team battle mechanics. Speaking of battle mechanics, the Sacred Treasures mechanic was also expanded upon, with the trailer showcasing the Nectar, Caduceus, and Bow of Artemis weapons and the absurd battlefield sweeps they’re capable of.

For those wondering about any pre-order bonuses, those were reviewed as well. Those who pre-order the physical version will receive alternate costumes for a Xu Shu, Mitsunari Ishida, Da Ji, Wang Yuanji, Wang Yi, Lady Hayakawa, Xingcai, Guo Jia, Takatora Todo, and Yoshitsugu Otani. Alternatively, if you wish to pre-order digitally through the Xbox Marketplace or Nintendo eShop, you will receive those alternate costumes plus two extra bonuses: an elusive unicorn and the mighty pegasus. Digital pre-orders on the PlayStation Store will receive the alternative costumes, the pegasus, and a special Warriors Orochi 4 theme.

Warriors Orochi 4 spears its way through time for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 16th in North America and October 19th for Europe and Australia.
