Vince Vaughn Joins The Rock’s Weird Paige Movie As (Probably) Jake Roberts

The Rock recently took to Instagram to announce that Vince Vaughn will be taking on a role in WWE’s upcoming Paige biopic, Fighting With My Family.

The part-time WWE star detailed Vaughn’s appearance in the movie, though didn’t explicitly mention the name of the wrestler Vaughn will be portraying. Judging from the clues, it looks like it could be none other than the reformed Jake Roberts:

Our @sevenbucksprod is excited to welcome Vince Vaughn to our #FightingWithMyFamily cast. He loved the script and sank his teeth into it embodying this character. He’s playing a man who I know all too well and those of you who follow wrestling history know well too. The 80’s wrestling star who squandered his money and opportunities because he didn’t have the capacity to handle his fame. One bad decision after another, but these days he owns his past actions and does everything he can to give back to the wrestling business he loves. Vince has been a buddy of mine for years and I’m fired up to see what he brings to this role. I grew up in and love this wild, crazy and unpredictable world of pro wrestling. Our little passion project is coming together nicely. More casting news to come. Production starts tomorrow. Let’s shoot! #FightingWithMyFamily #VinceVaughn #SevenBucksProds #MisherFilms #Film4 #WWEFilms #SquaredCircleDNA

Stephen Merchant is writing and directing the weirdest movie of the year, which has continued to puzzle wrestling fans since it was announced. Paige hasn’t exactly been on the best of terms with WWE in recent times, so the decision to shoot a biopic for her with more talent than a WWE Studios title has ever had is almost hard to believe.

There’s no release date in sight for Fighting With My Family, but just bear it in mind for when it is inevitably a question in a trivia quiz years down the line.

If you want to watch an actually good movie related to wrestling, The Resurrection of Jake the Snake is essential viewing.
