Unreleased Ice Cube Solo Demo of ‘Fuck the Police’ Surfaces

N.W.A. have been having somewhat of a renaissance of late, both in public favour and controversy, off the back of their biopic Straight Outta Compton. Whether it be Straight Outta Compton (the album) getting to number four on the Billboard 200 or feuding with former manager Jerry Heller – currently suing Dr Dre and Ice Cube – it really must feel like the good ol’ days for N.W.A.

With those good ol’ days in mind, an unreleased recording from way back when has surfaced online thanks to YouTube user Peep Game. The recording in question being a demo of version of what we have since come to know and love as ‘Fuck the Police’. Except that, unlike the final version, this demo isn’t a full group effort, and is instead an Ice Cube solo take including different lyrics to the one that was eventually put down for the album.

However, though Peep Game alleges that the recording features three original and unreleased Ice Cube verses, the tease only gives us a peep (see what I did there?) at that solo version and cuts out after the first verse. That being said, though, the first verse that we are allowed a sneaking listen of is completely different one to the eventual one Cube opened the track with, which is a nice insight into the writing and formulating process of Cube and N.W.A. too.

Whether we’re going to see, or hear, those second two verses any time soon is anyone’s guess, because aside from an advert for 916 Sneaker Kings across the video there’s no other information about Peep Game and this is the only video they’ve posted. Who they are, how they got hold of this demo, why they decided to unearth it now (I mean, aside from the obvious), and if we’ll ever hear the full Ice Cube solo take, shall just have to remain a mystery for the time being.

In the meantime though, take a listen to the verse and make your own mind up.
