Ubisoft’s The Division Movie Will Star Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain

Despite more or less falling of the radar of the gaming world, Ubisoft has seen enough potential with The Division to turn it into a movie. It has been confirmed that Jessica Chastain (Interstellar) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Prisoners) will star, presumably as leads.

Little to nothing else was revealed by Ubisoft Motion Pictures in its press release with the indication being that they have yet to nail down a story for the adaptation:

“The pandemic-stricken streets of The Division are filled with countless stories of love, loss, treachery, and heroism, but we’ll have to wait to find out what avenues the film will explore.”

Both Gyllenhaal and Chastain will be taking up production duties through their respective companies, but this isn’t actually Gyllenhaal’s first Ubi rodeo – he starred in the harmless Prince of Persia big-screen adaptation of 2010. He’s probably hoping for better things with this newest game-to-movie venture.

The Division, despite all its hype and bluster, never quite delivered, going on to be named our most disappointing game of 2016 so far. A squad-based shooter RPG, it never fully made the most of its setting or themes and has ultimately fallen by the wayside in the months since its release. Its plot is perfect for Hollywood, a disease-ravaged New York packed with “activated” undercover operatives, so it might just turn out okay.
