The Trainspotting 2 Trailer Brings Back the Skag Boys

Trainspotting 2 cast

Choose life. Choose the ultimate British film. Choose to wait two decades before making a sequel. Choose the original cast. Choose the same director. Choose a healthy scepticism for sequels to cult classics that come years later and inevitably let you down. Choose a 40 second teaser trailer that somehow instantly put those doubts to bed. Choose Trainspotting 2.

I blame this scepticism over the long-planned Trainspotting sequel on *hipster alert* the book not being all that. A funny read, sure, and incredibly well written. But it doesn’t hold a candle to the original. So how could its film adaptation be any different?

It only took this clip, which shows nothing – literally, nothing – of the story, and this previously released promo video, to change my mind. Now I cannot wait.

It’s a teaser, but definitely not a trailer.

The clip might last less than a minute, but it gives us a glimpse of how the Skag Boys look 20 years on from their first outing in Trainspotting – the 1996 black comedy based on the book by Irvine Welsh.

Several cast members have sang the praises of the script, which buoys my hopes slightly.

Interestingly, the trailer arrives with a title ‘T2’, which could fuel the idea that the studio hasn’t fully ruled out calling it ‘Porno’, as is the novel it’s based on.

Maybe they think they can’t get away with it, or maybe they just don’t think enough people will grasp that it’s a sequel to Trainspotting.

I still don’t believe it will be anywhere near as good as the first, but I’m just about starting to think I’m going to enjoy the shit out it.
